The plus walk this week was made up of two separate tracks at West Head.
Eighteen walkers arrived at the Flint and Steel track car park for an early start on a rather cloudy morning. The first part consisted of a steep downward walk through dense bush to White Horse beach passing the McGaw Ruins. Returning along the same path we turned off to descend again; this time to Flint and Steel Beach which was made easier with many stone and wooden steps. At the bottom the tide allowed us to have morning tea on the beach overlooking the Hawkesbury River.
After a strenuous climb back up to the car park we drove a short distance to the second walk of the day, the Bairne Track, on the other side of West Head peninsular. In contrast to the first walk this was a wide, undulating, stony trail, which took us out to Soldiers Point, where we enjoyed lunch and the view overlooking the Hawkesbury and the Basin. On returning to the cars we drove to have the usual après walk coffee at Terrey hills.
