Many thanks to the Walks Committee for giving us a walk with which we could find no fault – a real winner. Perhaps one thought is that the walk be programmed so that Maitland Bay beach is reached at low tide. It would be interesting to see if anything of the wreck is still visible above water.

                                     24 of the 63 souls aboard The Maitland died that night in 1898. The same ‘Maitland Gale’ claimed 11 other vessels.
