Leader Mary: 'The photos tell the story'. Destination: The Basin
At the Palm Beach ferry wharf, leaders, from the right, Mary, Dawn and Elaine welcome first arrivals John G and Ros G. Others arrived in time for coffee.
Two noticeable features at the Mackerel Beach Ferry wharf. Stuff comes onto Mackerel Beach (use a trolley) and on Fridays stuff goes out.
Mary knows that the serious walking is about to begin. Not too sure about her troops.
Walking along the beach to ascend via the right of way below and above the houses. Some serious water storage is going on here; some tanks well camouflaged.
Now it is the walk proper. Considering 'mineral' ahead of vegetable and animal: rocks, beautiful rocks, that have been here for two hundred million years.
Trees: Barbara's Angophora costata
and a stand of scribbly gums Eucalyptus haemastoma
Animals: On the track, a very well stocked larder ....
... and at The Basin the kookaburra will have to find something smaller than a goanna
Did we mention the views along the way? Mackerel Beach and at morning tea looking out to Palm Beach.
And walkers along the track: Lawrie, always the bushman and three Presidents at lunch.
Finally, at The Basin, the nine smartest people on the walk were, from the back Ros G, Anne G, Pragati, Polly, Deidre, Anne R, Judy, Sue S and Mary.
For the record: Leaders Mary, Dawn and Elaine E were followed by Judy, Ros G, Wendy C, Bill S, John G, Barbara, Ida, Sue S, Don W, Polly, Bert, Sue K, Helen A, Anne R, Pragati, Sheila, Christine C, Lawrie, Lyn, Deidre, Kurt, Anne G, Wendy P, Chris B, Liz R and 5 visitors. 32 walkers in all.
Photos: Barbara (1, 3, 7, 13, 14), Helen A (2, 4, 5, 9-11, 15, 18, 23), Don W (6, 16, 17, 19, 20), Anne R (12), Sue S (21,22).
