A warm, humid morning saw walkers converge on Circular Quay to take the ferry across to Manly Wharf, where we were joined by more walkers, making the total 19.
After making our way to the Manly Beach, we strolled along the Corso and then around to Shelley Beach. From there we ascended the headland which afforded views back to the northern beaches. We continued along the cliff edge, stopping in the shade of the old stone wall for morning rea.
We then struck inland, across an area recovering after fire 12 months ago. It was a delight to see new growth and a lake in the old quarry. We paused to inspect a gun emplacement and then made out way to the Barracks precinct where we marched across the former parade ground and admired the Decco buildings.
Next we turned toward the coast to wander through the hanging swamp and the Avenue of Honour. Our next stop was the Fairfax Lookouts, the southern most point on North Head, with stunning views towards South Head and Sydney Harbour.
Lunch was enjoyed in the shade of a giant fig tree outside North Fort before we returned to Manly via the Cemetery, lookouts and Collins Flat Beach where the waterfall was gently cascading. Coffee and drinks were enjoyed at the Manly Wharf Hotel.
