Seven members had a lovely day in the Springwood area today, following the meandering Sassafras Gully Creek downstream, then along Glenbrook Creek and up Magdala Creek for our return to Springwood. The numerous fallen trees and wet creek crossings did not deter this experienced and agile group as they took the challenges in their stride. Wet boots, climbing over, ducking under and weaving through fallen trees were no problem.
Recent rain this week slightly raised the levels of Sassafras and Magdala creek but Glenbrook creek was down about 20-30cm from 2 weeks ago.
The wet bark of huge Turpentines, masses of multi-coloured fungi and lots of scenic creeks and waterfalls added to the spectacle and pleasure of the day. Our giant Yabby found during the recce was nowhere to be seen. He probably left his temporary home on the track and was back into the creek by now. Yabby
After a pleasant morning tea where we met Glenbrook creek and a short stop at Perch Ponds 2km downstream, we headed up the Magdala creek track to see the spectacular Martins Falls where Peter and Hazel experienced the view from under and behind the falls out over the pool. The steady climb back was a pleasant walk where the sun occasionally came out (cloudy for a fair time today) to give us great views of shining cascades and wet, sparkling forest. Returning to our cars at the starting point at Picnic Glen (a better place to start than Sassafras Gully Rd), we headed off to the Ori Café at the old Orient Hotel in Springwood, for a nice coffee and relax after a great day of walking. Many thanks to all.
