Twelve walkers arrived for the Cascades Walk, despite a forecast hot day, and an advisory notifying certain challenges.
Setting out
The Bungaroo Track starts close to the pipeline, and wends its way down to Middle Harbour Creek, with some steep steps. The creek at The Steeping Stones is tidal. Some members may recall a previous occasion when the tide was high, and crossing was impossible. However, this time the tide times had been taken in to account, and the crossing was made without difficulty. Morning tea was held on the far side.
Stepping Stones Crossing
Then we joined the narrow track to the Cascades, fortunately fairly shady, in view of the hot day. There were, as had been advised, some tricky scrambles, up, down, around and between large rocks. The distance was not great, but the effort and time expended made it feel much further.
The warning The warning was valid!
As we neared the Cascades, there was general agreement that enough was enough, and a pleasant shady place was found for lunch, with a cascade nearby. Then back along the track, and the Stepping Stones still navigable. On return, there was some discussion about the labeling of the walk, many people finding the track conditions placed it more in the Plus level than Regular. There had been a couple of leeches sighted at morning tea, at the creek crossing, but no further problems until, on arrival home, both leaders found they had unwelcome visitors in their shoes! Coffee was enjoyed at St. Ives.
