A group of 13 set out on the fire trail at Kariong on a perfect autumn morning. We soon reached the turn off to Spion Kop & after a short time crossed the creek on a pretty rocky platform. We then began the short sharp climb to the ridge & followed a well marked track to our morning tea spot. Every one agreed that the fabulous views of Brisbane Water & Palm Beach were worth the wait. We then retraced our steps to the rocky platform sighting a beautiful green tree snake along the track. After lunch the leaders explored the creek bed upstream to find an easier way back which my friend Doug had recommended. Having found it we took the group back the short cut way. A short detour before the end of the walk took us to some interesting aboriginal engravings & the hieroglyphic site. Coffee was at the Mt Penang gardens cafe & all agreed it was a great day out.
