From the leader: What a perfect day for a walk! Perfect sunshine, clear blue water and a gentle cooling breeze! Fifteen of us set off from Manly Wharf to
walk with spritely steps and much chatter by the harbour around to North Harbour park. There some stopped for lunch while others climbed the steps and walked almost to Forty Baskets Beach before returning for a slightly later lunch. Such was the day that most sought shade for a cooler spot. Our return was highlighted by the discovery that Pat U’s school site was commemorated with a plaque.
Now if only we’d seen a whale! It was not long ago that such an expectation would not have even crossed our minds. Some things do change for the better.
A photographer imbedded with the group gives the pictorial record:
Manly Council is 'commendably strong' on history/heritage. There are 94 plaques similar to the one on the left on the manly Cove pathway. On the right, remembering a remarkable man.
Pathway signage (ignored by quite a few unleashed dogs) ..... ..... and the reason for them
And, of course, the view of water and the Quarantine Station environs
The group relaxed at Manly Cove for Morning Tea.
The explanation on the bottom of the photo on the right says
"Pat - 4 score and 10 next March attended this school
for three years - 1931-1933"
And below, lunch was at North harbour Reserve
