‘The threatened clouds have passed away, and brightly dawns our [walking] day.’ Well, not at day break, exactly, but at track-head the weather had
cleared and the Plus walk along the Georges River from East Hills Railway Station to Revesby Railway Station was enjoyed by 21 people in very pleasant walking weather. We walked along the board walk from Lambeth Reserve to Fitzpatrick Park (morning tea), around the Yeramba Lagoon, along the ridge top descending at Boomerang Reserve for lunch and then exited to Revesby Station.
Along the boardwalk:
We sat at three tables for MT; leader Helen A consulted maps-but no-one seemed very concerned
Leaving MT and, for the moment, Georges River
A beautiful walk around Yeramba Lagoon
And onto the ridge track. Another wonderful stroll
And a special feature of the lagoon and ridge tracks were the wild-flowers. Sadly we have only the one photo
The leaders, Helen A and Dawn recommended the omission of the programmed segment from Burrawong Reach to Padstow Station via the boardwalk alongside Salt Pan Creek. Their reasons were that the street walking and generally unkempt surrounds of the boardwalk gave little value. This was agreed to, so the ultimate distance walked was 12km, not 16km. The walkers were Rhondda, Elaine E, Kas, Cherry, Peter, Bert, Jill, Susan, Maurice, Mary, Jill, Sue S, Helen A, Dawn Ros G, a visitor, Sue B, Nick, John B, John G and John M (tail-end Charlie).
In this six month program the Walks Committee has given us three walks exploring parts of the Georges River: Oatley Park and Lime Kiln Bay; Chipping Norton Lakes and lastly around East Hills-Revesby. Thank you Walks Committee! A number of us (Dawn, Kas, Helen A, Sue B and Nick ) have been fortunate enough to do all walks. It has been extremely enjoyable, and for most of us, given us an appreciation of the River’s geography and history that we hitherto quite lacked.
