In spite of the early morning rain eight people attended the regular walk on 4th September to the Sylvan Grove Native Gardens and the Georges River
National Park. By the time we reached Panania, the rain had stopped. Our walk down Lambeth Street included singing the chorus of “The Lambeth Walk”. At Lambeth Reserve, on the banks of the Georges River we had morning tea. We then followed the river on the boardwalk, until we reached the steps up to the ridge and the native gardens.
We wandered around the gardens admiring the rock orchids and many other flowering plants and also the beautiful green moist gullies with their birdsnest ferns. These gardens are very well maintained by Bankstown Council.
After leaving the gardens we returned down the long flight of steps to the Georges River.
We continued the walk along the river until we reached Fitzpatrick Park where we had lunch. By this time the weather had improved and we enjoyed sitting in the sun by the edge of the river.
After lunch we crossed Henry Lawson Drive to Yeramba Lagoon and followed the first part of the circuit around the lagoon up to the ridge, where we caught the bus back to Revesby. Along this track there were many white ground orchids.
For the record: Leaders Margaret B and Robyn were followed by Ray, faye, Rex, Barrie, Jim and David G.

An extra appreciation of Leader Robyn's talents:
Have a look at the name of the street running south from Panania Station almost to the river for 1.8 kms and then note the first verse of the 1937 song from "Me and My Gal" - just one of the songs that helped England through WW2, the Battle of Britain, the London Blitz, etc. - and made famous by some top talents in those troubled years - Gracie Fields/Vera Lynn/George Formby/Glen Miller and his Band/and others.
