It was a beautiful sunny morning when our group of fourteen arrived at Kurnell for the start the walk.
As it was already 10.30am we decided to have morning tea before setting off on the track. Claude gave us a very interesting talk on the history of la Perouse from the French perspective whilst we had morning tea in the shade. Thank you Claude.
Then it was off to Cape Solander and although there weren't any whales in sight the view of the coast line here was magnificent. The track follows the coast along rock platforms to Cape Bailey lighthouse where we stopped in the shade for another photo opportunity.
It was then on to lunch once again in the sun at Boat Harbour beach.
After lunch we set off for our final 6km of beach walking passing Wanda, Elouera, North Cronulla beaches on the way. Luckily the sand was quite firm & we could make good progress because we could see a storm approaching rather quickly.
Ten of our group of group of fourteen decided to have coffee in Cronulla & we had only just sat down when the storm hit!!
We then had an epic journey home because of an accident at Como. Leaving the train at Sutherland & catching a bus to Bankstown before rejoining the train & heading north once again.
"Claude gave us a very interesting talk on the history of la Perouse from the French perspective whilst we had morning tea in the shade." Walkers couchant.
Walkers now passant. "Then it was off to Cape Solander"
"The coast line here was magnificent" and the path and occasionally moves away from the rocks, where such as Flannel flowers Actinotus helianthi were casting shadows.
The track follows the coast along rock platforms ..." where Clive had a chat to a fisherman and then picked up something (not a snake he said) on the track.
"... to Cape Bailey lighthouse where we stopped in the shade for another photo opportunity." It was warm. Anne G proved she is descended from Englishmen, and Jill told a tall tale. As the walkers moved on clouds started to gather, there was the beginning of a breeze and the temperature eased.
Specimens of vegetable (Coastal Spinifex Spinifex sericeus), mineral and animal (Silver Gull Choicocephalus novaehollandiae) were all on view.
"After lunch we set off for our final 6km of beach walking ..."
(seeing the last of the rocks and an example of remedial or preservation work)
