15 walkers met at Hornsby station for the riverside walk from Woy Woy to Governor Philip Memorial at The Rip bridge and over Blackwall Mountain.
After early concerns about showers, the day turned out to be nice and sunny, but with a cool breeze.
The walkers enjoyed the fine estuarine vista and the varied birdlife on the level walk down to the Memorial. At the Memorial itself, the plaques detailing Philip's and Hunter's exploits so soon after arriving in Australia gave rise to expressions of wonder.
The northern ridge climb up the Mountain was tough-going but thankfully short and the group was rewarded with great views eastwards from the lunch spot at the summit look out. After lunch it was a good hike back to the riverside and along to the coffee stop at Woy Woy.
