Meeting at the end of the Great Western Highway at Lapstone, we inspected the John Whitton monument and the gate house ruins, before heading up the former rail alignment to the impressive sandstone Knapsack Gully Bridge, which was initially a rail bridge and later a road bridge (and now a foot bridge!)

More railway memorabilia: the Winding House Base for a railway and old telegraph poles used in the construction of the new railway line
Next we visited Marges Lookout (another view point overlooking the plains), The view of Penrith lakes from Marge's Lookout. (No these lookouts were not named after Queen Elizabeth and her sister, Princess Margaret, but after the wives of local dignitaries)
