23 participants met at Huntley’s Point wharf.
We organised into 2 groups of 12 and 11.
We walked west along the Parramatta River past Wallumatta Bay, through the historic former Gladesville Hospital grounds
a
observing the sandstone buildings and learning a little about the 180 year history of the site.
After walking by the riverside at Bedlam Point
a
we passed out of the grounds near Banjo Patterson Cottage where Banjo Patterson lived with his grandmother,
then into Banjo Patterson park where we enjoyed morning tea
a
After walking through streets with glimpses of the water through houses we walked through Glades Bay park into Bill Mitchell park and Peel Park
After a couple of km of street walking we crossed Victoria Rd
and took us into Tarban Creek reserve walking track where Lilian’s group had lunch.
Anne’s group continued past a wetlands no longer populated with fruit bats with the creek flowing into Riverglade Reserve and had lunch beside Tarban Bay overlooked by Huntley's Cove
We all followed the path under Tarban Creek Bridge and Gladesville bridge past waterfront mansions to return to the wharf as the strong weather change came in.
Some returned to Huntley's Cove cafe for coffee.
A walk which provides a look at history and unexpected natural areas in a busy city.
