Our large group (29 people) travelled by train from Central to Tempe station to walk a path along the Cooks River. The river has paths along both the north and south shores. In this instance we began our journey on the northern side of the river at Mackey Park, using the available bridges to cross back and forth at intervals.

More scenes along the river
A local community group, The Mudcrabs, cares for the Cooks River by regularly collecting rubbish and undertaking bush regeneration activities along the river. The efforts of that group were clearly visible along the path and much appreciated by us. It would be lovely to revisit this trail during spring when the native plants have burst into flower.

Mangroves and reflections
The weather stayed bright with mostly gentle breeze throughout the day. At around the halfway mark, near Canterbury Station, a few people bid us farewell. After lunch at Walsh Avenue Reserve, some of our party decided to catch a bus to Strathfield station. The remaining 13 people walked the length of Coronation Parade to Strathfield where we enjoyed a very pleasant coffee, cake and chat.
