Eighteen, yes eighteen, of us set forth in superb weather in Sydney Park. Situated in the old industrial area of St Peters, one of its main features is the old brick kiln chimneys.
After an initial shock of seeing one of the stormwater-filled lakes devoid of water, we followed the path round the other waterways, carefully avoiding all the primary school children doing a cross country run. The many dogs out for exercise too added to the cheerful atmosphere of the park. Walking uphill, we found extended views over the city and we were able to better understand where we were.
As the day was warmer than expected, we struggled to find a lunch spot in the shade and this was partially accomplished. A final walk up a small hill gave some of us a final satisfying view over the surroundings. It was certainly an area worth visiting.
I would like to acknowledge my appreciation of the input, assistance and smile that Helen S has given over the years. She has now stepped down as co-leader. Her replacement, Mary is most welcome.
In Sydney Park on view were ...
... chimney stacks ... a musical Otto
... old brick kilns .... and a human sun-dial (this time Marg B of HVB)
The group on its morning tea break, paying attention to leaders Mary and Lyn
Then back to the sights ...
... a wetland area ... and the working traffic lights in the children's playground
A view towards Sydney Airport
then ... a Peppercorn tree ... a way across the pond
Most of the group - including how many retired teachers? Five?
For the record: Lyn and Mary were followed by Joan, Jean Mc, Chris W, Norma, Marg B, Dot, Liz W, Ray, Pat U, Noel, Betty, Kath, Diana M, Pam, Hillie and Lorna.
Words by Lyn.
