We were gifted a picture-perfect late summer day for our jaunt to the lower reaches of the Hawkesbury River. Fourteen walkers (including the two leaders and two visitors) gathered at Brooklyn Public Wharf in time to catch the 9.25am ferry to Little Wobby. After a brief, enjoyable ferry ride we landed at Little Wobby and proceeded to wend our way in front of and between waterside houses nestled beneath the escarpment. We then followed the gently undulating access road towards Broken Bay Sport & Recreation Centre at Little Patonga.

However, there were scenic vistas to discover, so we soon veered sharp left to clamber (perhaps some more elegantly than others, but all with great aplomb) up to the top of the escarpment. Shortly after our ascent, our efforts were well rewarded by morning tea seated on a rocky outcrop with sweeping views of the river.
'Watching boats race from the morning tea spot.'
We then took trails along the escarpment, enjoying further magnificent views, tessellated rocks and venerable Angophoras, ....

... before a steep, rock-clambering descent to Little Patonga. There we lunched by the beach, with views towards the mouth of the Hawkesbury that included boats, Barrenjoey Lighthouse, and a wonderful collection of driftwood teepees on the beach itself.
'Lion Island.' 'Lunch overlooking the beach.'
After lunch, we took the access road back to Little Wobby,

It was a splendid outing!
