This 13km replacement walk (due to the all common track issues of late), was led by Jenny C and Peter T today, as the original leaders Celia and Hazel were unable to lead due to various reasons. (No problem as we intended to go anyway).
The weather forecast for Bobbin Head / North Turramurra area was something like 50% chance of 0.2 to 1.2mm. This was quite accurate as we only experienced light misting sprinkles for parts of the walk. The sun even came out for about an hour!
The walk advisory stated: “there will be a couple of options in mind for the walk. At the park gates we decided we would see who was there and what they thought. Very diplomatic, or a recipe for contention? No, the 8 walkers quickly agreed to have fun and do a circuit down the Sphinx Trail. This lies to the south of the Sphinx Track and does not have all those steps! Leaving around 8:50 we headed down the Sphinx Trail, following this trail (at times steep) down to a lookout, and then the last 100m not so steep descent on a minor track, to the Warrimoo track at the river.
We quickened pace on the Warrimoo track which runs beside the misty Cowan Creek, eventually reaching our firstcoffee stop at the Bobbin Head marina at 11:05. Coffee in hand we headed over to the picnic area for morning tea. Cloud had returned and the breeze was cool so we did not linger. Heading back to the marina, we took the climb up to the Bobbin Head Trail eventually reaching the ridge for easier travel. Almost back to the start, a detour was now in order along the Jacob Track to a lookout for lunch at 1:10pm. The views did not disappoint and the flowers were the best we’d seen all day.
A short walk saw us finish at our cars at 2:10PM. How long since our last coffee? No long discussion needed here so we headed off to North Turramurra for another! This was a nice walk with a nice group of walkers.
