Eight walkers met near the Penrith Rowing club for a car shuffle to Wianamatta Regional Park to start the walk. The day promised to be pretty warm, and so it proved to be.
Following Luxford’s Trail, we made our way through the park, spotting a pair of wallabies along the way, though sadly, there was no sign of the emu encountered on the recce. Leaving the park, we wandered though suburbs new (Jordan Springs) and not so new (Cranebrook), appreciating the relief provided by the shade of any mature trees. We also noted that some councils were better at sign posting than others. Morning tea was enjoyed in a park on the edge of a lake at Jordan Springs.
The Great West Walk joins up a number of parks and lakes, but in between, the walk can be quite exposed and hot, especially in the newer suburbs where the trees are smaller. We took advantage of a small shady park for lunch.
Not long after lunch, we hit the busy main road and industrial area until we joined the Great River Walk and followed the bank of the Nepean River back to the rowing club for drinks and recovery. Rick kindly reversed the car shuffle as we headed off home.
