First walk of the 2017 season and much merriment occurred by the Pavilion at Bondi Beach with both Regulars and Pluses coming together for a short reunion prior to commencing the walk.

Anticipating an extremely hot day we were pleasantly surprised when a lovely cool breeze and a few clouds kept us all in good spirits. After a short briefing from Claude at Icebergs we made our way to Tamarama Beach for coffee and morning tea. We decided not to stop at the Aussie poets’ graves at Waverley cemetery as we had on previous coastal walks but with the track on the coast side closed for repairs we had no choice but to traverse the cemetery anyway. Of course some of us couldn’t resist chanting a few lines from our favourite “My Country” as we passed Dorothea’s grave, even if just to give our leader a hard time!

Resting on a wall after an upwards climb we were treated to a bit of fun with some humorous travel anecdotes etc. from Kurt, Barry and Ray and our visitor.

Continuing on we enjoyed the beautiful scenery of Clovelly Beach, Gordon’s Bay etc. before taking the usual pause for remembrance at the Bali Memorial at Coogee North. We enjoyed lunch on the grassy hillside in the shade of the trees with a great view of Coogee Beach, followed by coffee at the Coogee Bite Café.

The surf was too tempting for the leaders

The surf was too tempting for the leaders ..
After pointing out the homeward transport options to all, leaders Claude & Margaret were guilty of desertion and opted instead for a swim in the surf!
