After some street walking from Artarmon Station we arrived at Stringybark Creek Reserve and walked along the Harry Howard Bushwalk beside Stringybark Creek through the Stringybark Creek and Batten Reserves. Initially we walked through remnants of Blue Gum High Forest. Later we passed reminders of the sandstone quarrying that once took place along the creek. After crossing Centennial Avenue we entered the Batten Reserve and discovered some Lady Finger orchids growing beside the track. We noted some interesting graffiti art as we walked under Epping Road before arriving behind the large blocks of units beside Epping Road where we had morning tea. Our walk continued down and under the Epping Road Bridge over the Lane Cove River. John G pointed out that the bridge is actually three bridges with the middle one being the old bridge (and with more graffiti art). We then followed the River Track along the Lane Cove River through salt marsh until we reached the Chatswood Golf Course where we turned up to the O. H. Reid Memorial Oval for lunch. Some more street walking after lunch brought us to the Ferndale Track winding through some more bush beside Swains Creek, before eventually arriving back at Chatswood for a welcome coffee.
