The walk from Woy Woy Road to Spion Kop was especially memorable for the amazing abundance of wildflowers on the whole track

Never before had any of us seen such large expanses of purple flags (patersonia sericea).
and the stunning view from Spion Kop (as well as the excellent camaraderie!)
A pleasant two kilometre walk on the Bambara Road fire trail brought us to the bushtrack descent to our morning tea spot with a view to Waterfall Bay.
A short distance further we crossed a scenic, pot holed creek with its disguised entrance to the ascending track through two large boulders.
After reaching an escarpment we followed the winding and fairly level track through the prolific wildflowers
old angophora Tetratheca ericifolia Pomaderris intermedia Swamp Heath Isopogum
to rock expanses with views to the north & Waterfall Bay before arriving at Spion Kop.
The 180 degree view to Davistown, Brisbane Water, Woy Woy, Woy Woy Bay, Umina, Lion Island & Barrenjoey was impressive but didn’t quite match the view the leaders had on the picture perfect recce day!
We retraced our steps to the creek & then walked up it for a short distance before picking up a short cut track back to the fire trail & our trackhead at Woy Woy Road.
Most walkers enjoyed a coffee at Penang Gardens & an encounter with some Regular Walkers there. Another great day of walking.
