Two groups completed two different walks; the circumstances are explained below- Ed.
A walk in the Shire – a tale of two part(ie)s.
If life serves lemons…make lemonade! 25 walkers at Cronulla made lemonade when their Kurnell bus was cancelled. The next bus, an hour away, would have us arriving home well after dark. Plan B was called for.
Phyllis with her phone and Don B with his local knowledge soon designed a circuit walk of Elouera Beach and the Cronulla Peninsular.
25 walkers still enjoyed a spectacular day of sunshine and seascapes.
Mary's revised walk plan well received
Pacific coast: Flag 32 - 8 prohibitions and 7 warnings; Low tide; The entrance to Port Hacking
Flinders and Bass Memorial Lookout: The Group; the Monument and Lyndy and Don Wo
Co-Leader Phyllis suggests that 'The Hugry Point Reserve' is a good lunch spot. She was right.
The group turned away from the coast and walked along, or close too, the shores of Gunnamatta Bay.
Away from the coast; Darook Beach; on Guttamatta Bay
Of course, Cronulla has a not inconsiderable amount of Real Estate
45 Nicholson has a view of the bay,and it is close to the station.
The auction was on 12 July

Meanwhile back at Kurnell…..4 walkers who had fortuitously arrived by car, completed the programmed walk as planned as reported below.
The Monument Track being blocked by construction work we headed south to Cape Solander and the whales.
School holidays meant that there were many whale searchers at the Cape but only a few unsatisfactory distant whale sightings and we continued south for morning tea on a lovely headland but alas, still no whales.
Still heading south, the lighthouse gave us great views of Cronulla and the City. It was time for lunch and we found a nice spot near a little cove, looking out to sea, mostly with a good southern view.
It was during lunch, that our whale spotter Theresa pointed to a small boat motoring north close to shore. Sure enough, they were following a pod of 3 whales only a few hundred meters form shore. How lucky were we? Photos and videos taken, we now felt satisfied that we had got what we came for.
Walking back to Kurnell took no time. A lovely afternoon tea/coffee with cakes at Café 1770 and we headed home after a great day.
View of the coast looking south from Cape Solander... ... and looking north.
