Twenty members met at Town Hall station for the trip to Como. High cloud meant little chance of rain - and most of the cloud cleared away soon after the walk started giving lovely sunny and cool conditions, which lasted to the end of the walk. After giving the group the usual introduction to the walk, Leaders Phyllis and Pete were joined by Nick B and Lyndy L as "Tail-ender" and "First Aider" respectively - many thanks to them!

We began with some street walking, the first kilometre containing several sets of ascending steps and hills which were quite challenging and were taken at a reasonable pace. The terrain levelled a little and the group stopped for morning tea at the Henry Lawson Reserve where most took the opportunity to refresh and improve their knowledge of this renowned poet.

We continued through urban Como West another kilometre or so then entered the lovely Paruna Aboriginal Heritage Reserve with its beautiful views of Woronora River - many members taking the opportunity to take a short side track to get to the riverside for uninterrupted views. The reserve contains information boards which provide some fascinating stories - thousands of years old - from Aboriginal Dreamtime.

The track continues along the banks of the Woronora River with some rougher sections and some short but steep stairs and tracks. Eventually the group wended its way underneath the railway line near the old bridge over the Woronora / Georges Rivers to arrive at the Como Pleasure Grounds, where we stopped for lunch (and for some, a welcome toilet break!)

Following lunch the group followed the circuit around for about a kilometre to the lovely Como Hotel, across grounds that were reclaimed and are now used as sports grounds - in Victorian times people actually rowed from the Pleasure Grounds to the hotel for a drink after their picnic. A very pleasant coffee was had on an upper verandah which offered lovely views over the Georges River. A short 500 - 700 metre walk then took us back to Como station for the return trip home.
