Twenty four keen walkers arrived at Manly Dam for the Regular walk, on a beautiful, sunny day, although a little cold initially. Our own David Attenborough took a group photo, explaining its historic aspect, and Lyndy gave a brief outline of the birds she had already identified. We then started on the Wildflower Walk and Nature Trail. We soon warmed up, with the many steps, and ups and downs, involved. Wildflowers were a little sparse, but the bush in this section was in good condition.
Morning tea was near the dam, with comfortable tables and toilet nearby. Then the Perimeter Track took us up beside the creek, with waterfalls and pools, and more steps. We crossed the creek on the combined bike and walk track, and had quite a stretch on this track before the walking track resumed. There were few bikes, but many runners passed us.
A comfortable lunch spot was eventually found, and we descended the other side of the dam. There were more wildflowers on this side, and good signs of regeneration after a recent fire.
Finally, across the high dam wall, and the end was reached. Coffee was available nearby.
Then…and Now (2013 and 2023) – can you spot any repeat customers?
The walkers, led by Dawn and Elaine were Ann D., Bert, Bill, Chris MCA., Chris S., Diana, Don Wo., Drina, John G., John S., Kurt, Lyn, Lyndy, Mary, Michael, Robyn Ma., Rosie, Ros, Sue F., Wendy P., Margaret and Howard L (completing their third walk).
Chris McA. and Ros shared first aid duties, and Michael acted as tail ender. Thanks to all.
