"9 walkers met on a beautiful autumn morning in Glenview Rd at Mt Kuringai for the walk. The Lyrebird track descends steeply along the pretty Calna Creek, passing a rockwall on the right & then crossing the creek on rock platforms & some slippery rocks several times before coming to a sunny spot at the side of the track, where we had a pleasant morning tea stop.
After morning tea we continued downhill again to the intersection of Calna & Berowra Creeks at the Calna Bridge.
This is where we also join the GNW & follow it on boardwalk across saltmarsh ...
... to another rocky track alongside Berowra Creek where there are casuarinas, grass trees & lots of remnants of middens beside the track. The track then climbs fairly steeply to a small flat clearing with some huge boulders where we stop to regroup.
From here the track descends again to some more saltmarsh & heads to the right towards a clearing beside Sam's Creek which we had to cross on some huge rocks.
Once across the creek the track climbs steeply, zigzagging on timber steps & a couple of staircases to a bench seat in a small sandstone cave, where we have a well-deserved rest.
Soon afterwards we came to a T- intersection where a fire trail heads to the right towards Berowra station. However our lunch spot is at the Naa Badu (meaning "sea water") lookout, a slight detour to the left but well worth it for its great view back along Berowra Creek towards where we have already walked.
After lunch & a rest we continued on the fire trail & then another bush track uphill again towards Berowra Station, ...
... stopping at the "Wise Monkey" coffeeshop for a chat & debrief, before catching the train back to Mt Kuringai station.
Everyone agreed it was a beautiful but quite challenging walk.
Thank you to Wendy my co-leader, Mary our first aider, Barbara R our tailender, Steve for your assistance & everyone else for coming along.
