A surprisingly small group of 7 walkers met at Quarry Road in Hornsby on a perfect autumn morning and started the walk down the Depression Steps (as they are commonly known, despite the Council sign calling them the 'Heritage steps'...). Throughout the day, this proved to be an ideal walk, almost entirely on bush tracks, nicely balanced between the flat, the ups and the downs with no real killer climbs, dangerous creek crossings or excessive road walking. It was challenging in length but the group kept up a good pace throughout.

We paused at Fishponds for the view and a water break then continued for 2 or 3 more kilometres to the morning tea break on one of the high ridges. From there we continued through very attractive bush before reaching Cherrybrook Lakes. After a brief pause, we continued through bush before reaching a short section of street walking prior to hitting the Callicoma Circuit. Lunch was taken early, just before the Circuit commenced. Again, the track was varied, attractive and, whilst a little less regular underfoot, conducive to a good walking pace. The walk finished with a few minutes of uphill street walking to Thornleigh, where a welcome coffee awaited us at the Monday Morning cafe.
